Melbourne to Adelaide - a tale from the front seats

Melbourne is a large city, and while we only had four days here, we do have some recommendations:

Queen Vic Market - huge and historic market - get some oysters and eat them right there in the hallway, or get some roo steaks to grill later

For those of you who are SERIOUS about your coffee (which is a big deal in Melbourne), Market Lane is a great place to get your fix

Walking Tour of the city - a great way to get an overview, see street art, and get a shout (IYKTYK)

Vacation Coffee - 80’s vibe coffee shop

Super Normal - really good Asian fusion food in a beautiful setting

Hotel Lincoln - not a hotel but a great lunch spot with great, minimal decor

Caretaker’s Cottage - amazing, unique, cocktails, very busy and popular

We then headed onto Mt Gambier, just for a night. There are several cool things to check out if you ever find yourself here.

The Umpherston Sink Hole - a very cool story, check out the episode to learn more

Blue Lake - looks photoshopped, is not

Good Intentions cellar door - a hole in the wall with AMAZING, funky wines. They also make wood fire pizzas. The owners are super cool and will chat you up while you do a tasting

On our final day/night, we stopped in Kingston to see Larry the Lobster and also had some very good, locally caught rock lobster at Lacepede Seafood

Next we visit Adelaide and make our drive back to Sydney.

After Melbs we continued on towards Adelaide with our first stop being the town of Torquay (pronounced TOR-KEY, go figure) which is the birthplace of Ripcurl and Quicksilver. No one was wearing shoes because why would you?

We then of course had to stop at Bells Beach. Watch ‘Point Break’ and you will understand. As we drove down the Great Ocean Road, we stopped for a few nights, just outside of the town of Lorne, at the Cumberland River holiday park. AMAZING setting and could not recommend this place more.

On our next leg, we stopped to see the 12 Apostles, BUT you can only see 3 from the main beach/viewing point. Spoiler alert - there were never 12.

We then made our way to Port Fairy - a very cute town with an amazing surfing beach and an island that you could walk around, while covered in flies. If the weather had been nice I think this would have been one of our top 5 towns that we stayed in.
